Mitchel Newman posted an early lead and coasted to a relatively easy victory over incumbent Ronnie McBride for the Democratic nomination for Jasper County Sheriff.

Newman garnered 2,614 votes to McBride's 1,914 to gain the nomination. Newman will face Republican challenger Jim Byerly in the November general election.
