JISD hunt culled to 14 choices

During a special executive session held Tuesday, the Superintendent search committee of the Jasper Independent School District Board of Trustees reviewed applications, resumes and other information submitted by candidates for the position.

Board president Eddie Hopkins confirmed that the district has received 23 applications for the position and Tuesday's meeting was set up to narrow the list down to 10- 14.

"We're trying to do this as quick as we can but not get in too big of a hurry either," Hopkins said. "We really want to have someone named by February or March at the latest." The search committee is

made up of Hopkins and board members Brenda Job and Joe Breckenridge will serve on the committee. Carolyn Armitage serves as the alternate.

The committee is charged with finding a replacement for Dr. Eddie Dunn, who will leave his post with the district Dec. 2 to accept a position with the Ennis Independent School District.

Butch Dean, JISD director of finance and operations, has been appointed to the post of Interim Superintendent of Schools, effective Dec. 2.

Dean, a Jasper native, has 20 years experience with JISD. He holds both B.S. and Masters degrees from Lamar University. He is a member of the Texas Association of School Business Officials.
