County takes no action on closing of roads for weather

Jasper County Jim Allison, attorney for Commissioners took no action Nov. 15 on the proposed ordinance to give commissioners the authority to temporarily close roads during adverse weather to trucks weighing in excess of 20,000 pounds.

The ordinance was proposed by Precinct 4 Commissioner Mack Rose, who said heavy oil field equipment was tearing apart the roads already damaged by October flooding.

the County Judge and commissioners Association, held a workshop Nov. 14 covering county road problems and subdivision rules. According to Precinct 3 Commissioner Willie Stark, Allison informed the court that they could not legally enforce such an ordinance.

Commissioners court has a special session scheduled for today, Nov. 22, at 9 a.m. to consider approval of minor changes in the employee handbook.
