Scott accused of assaulting Jasper police during chase

Jasper police arrested a suspect who attempted to elude capture and assaulted the officers Friday, Nov. 10.

Matthew LaJuan Scott, 19, of Jasper, was arrested and charged with failure to identify, evading arrest or detention, resisting arrest, search or transport and assault on a public servant.

According to incident reports, Jasper officers Tyler Lewis and J.R. Humble were dispatched to the Pineview Apartments in the 700 block of Pollard to investigate suspicious activity at 7:15 p.m. Apartment management

requested police patrol the complex in an effort to curb narcotic transactions, according to the police report.

Humble saw Scott as he was attempting to avoid Lewis and stopped him and asked him his name.

Scott told Humble his name was "Roy Williams" and was asked a second time for proper identification.

In his report, Humble said he knew Scott from previous situations and knew his name was not "Roy Williams."

Humble grabbed Scott by the wrist and the two

struggled as he attempted to cuff the suspect. Scott allegedly swung his left arm at Humble, striking the officer with his left elbow.

Scott eluded Humble and took off running in Lewis' direction. Scott ran over Lewis, knocking the officer to the ground.

Police chased Scott to Graham Street where he fell in the grass. Humble pulled his Taser weapon and ordered Scott to the ground where he was arrested by Sgt. Jeff Coulter.

According to incident reports, Lewis and Humble suffered internal bruising to their arms.
