Hemphill rolls past Jasper 85-43

The Jasper Lady Bulldogs lost their first home game 85-43 to Hemphill, Nov. 21. Hemphill is ranked 12th in preseason polls for Class 2A teams.

The Lady Hornets' Shamika Singleton scored 47 points while teammate Diamond Austin followed with 20.

Jasper committed 11 turnovers in the first quarter, most of those forced and ended the period down 24-7.

The Lady Bulldogs picked up 16 points in the second quarter to Hemphill's 23, to end the first half down 47-23.

Hemphill continued to dominate the floor in the second half, picking up 42 points to Jasper's 23. The Lady Bulldogs were unable to stop Singleton, who scored 30 of her 47 points in the second half.

While stats were not available, the Lady Hornets clearly had the advantage in both offensive and defensive rebounds.

Brittany Bronson led Jasper's scoring effort with 12 points, followed by Anna Nation and Shalithia Middleton with 10 each. Junior varsity had a very

good night, besting Hemphill 59-28. The young Lady 'Dogs held their opponents to only three points in the first quarter, 10 in the second, seven in the third and eight in the fourth.

These youngsters, six of 11 who are freshmen, did an excellent job of working the ball inside to the post.

Breeuna Hafford, Brandy and Brittiny Goff had 11 points each. Courtney Baker and Tishea Parks scored six each.

Varsity will play the Hudson tournament Nov. 30-Dec. 2 and both teams will open district in Kirbyville, Dec. 5.
