All-district squads
Jasper, which finished the season at 2-8 overall, 2- 5 in district play, gained two first team selections on defense and one second team offense selection. "In an eight-team district, there are so many quality athletes that some are going to be left out," said Jasper head football coach and athletic director Danny Lauve. "You have teams like West Orange and Silsbee, they probably have some kids they felt were left off as well." Leading the first-team defensive selections were senior lineman Marques Johnson and linebacker Jaylon Clotiaux. The seniors anchored the Bulldogs defensive attack all season long and shined during an otherwise dismal district campaign. "We were very pleased with Marques' play during the year," Lauve said. "He was one of those seniors who stuck with it the whole year and continued to battle from week to week. It was great recognition for a guy who has a great work ethic to stick with things." Lauve called Cloatiux his "rock" on the team this year.
On the offensive side of the ball, senior offensive lineman Jomar Cauley garnered a second team selection. Cauley was the strength on a young offen sive line and helped provide running lanes for Jasper' running backs. Lauve believed Cauley would be a first-team selection. "I know there are some good offensive linemen in this district but Jomar was a kid that was solid all year," Lauve said. "He will have a great future in football." The Kirbyville Wildcats, who finished the year at 8-4, placed 10 players on the all district team including sophomore quarterback Aaron Hazelwood being named Newcomer of the Year. The Wildcats placed four players on the first-team offense including junior running back Pierce Rhodes, who was a unanimous selection. Rhodes provided the Wildcats a potent running attack as he had two 300-yard rushing games this year.
Second team selections for the Wildcats included senior running back Lakarlis Diggles, senior offensive lineman Michael Robinson and junior offensive lineman Dre Jackson. Kirbyville's sole second team defensive selection was senior defensive lineman Cody Alvarez. For the district, West Orange-Stark's Earl Thomas was named most valuable player for the 11-1 Mustangs. Thomas starred as WO-S's do-everything offensive threat including seeing time as wide receiver, running back and quarterback. He also anchored the Mustangs secondary.
Dustin Locks of WO-S was named defensive MVP for the district while WO-S head coach Dan R. Hooks was named coach of the year |
