Man arrested after attempting to break into home with weapon

A 20-year-old Jasper man was arrested after allegedly brandishing a gun while trying to break into his girlfriend's home Wednesday, Nov. 29.

Adam Guzman, of Jasper, was arrested and charged with unlawfully carrying a weapon and possession of a stolen firearm by Jasper police after he confronted police following a traffic stop.

According to police reports, Jasper police officer Gerald Hudson and Sgt. Chris Ensign were dispatched to assist Jasper County Deputy Jeff Richardson after Richardson stopped Guzman off of State Hwy. 63.

Hudson ordered Guzman out of his vehicle at gunpoint and asked him to place his hands on his head. Guzman did so but then started walking toward the officers stating "do what you got to do" and "I ain't afraid of your shotgun. Shoot me." Police reports indicated

that Guzman was irate over an incident with his girlfriend. With Hudson and Richardson holding him at gunpoint, Ensign pulled his taser gun and order Guzman to the ground.

Guzman allegedly stuck his hands in his pants' pockets and made a slight movement with his hands. Officers were aware that Guzman had a weapon but didn't have a location of it when Ensign fired his taser gun and stuck Guzman in the upper chest and lower stomach.

Guzman's arrest stemmed from an early morning incident in which he allegedly attempted to break into his girlfriend's home and stuck a weapon through the door.

Police were called to a residence in the 300 block of Carter in reference to an attempted break-in. When police arrived, they spoke with two female victims who said Guzman had tried to kick in the door to the residence and told them he was "going to shoot the door."

Police reports indicated that Guzman managed to open the bottom portion of the door and was holding a gun. When he heard his girlfriend on the phone with police, he left the scene. After Guzman was arrested,

a 9mm handgun was found under the driver's seat of his vehicle. The gun was reported stolen out of Kirbyville and was turned over to the Jasper County sheriff's office.

Guzman was taken to the Jasper County Jail and later transferred to Jasper

Christus Memorial Hospital after a laser probe slightly broke his skin. Doctors kept Guzman in the hospital for four hours after he was reported with a slightly elevated heart rate. He was later released in the custody of officers.
