Diggles guest speaker at Newton Lions lunch

Walter Diggles will be guest speaker at the Lions Club luncheon Thursday, Dec. 7, at noon in the First Baptist Church in Newton.

Diggles, executive director of the Deep East Texas Council of Governments, is currently overseeing distribution of the Social Service Grant Block funding in the amount of $8.4 million dollars to organizations within the area impacted by Hurricane Rita.

DETCOG encompasses a 12-county area with more than 300,000 people. DETCOG programs serve cities, counties, school districts and community organizations.

The Lions Club is an international service organization. The monthly lunch and program are open to all.
