Faces & Places Candle sale Christus Jasper Memorial Auxiliary will host a holiday candle sale Thursday, Dec. 7, in the south wing dining room from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. STARS graduation The Southeast Texas Academic Recovery School (STARS) will hold graduation ceremonies Dec. 11 in the Jasper High School auditorium at 5:30 p.m. NARFE meeting The Silsbee-Jasper Chapter #1319 of the National Association of Retired and Current Federal Employees will meet Wednesday, Dec. 13, in Jasper at the Catfish Cabin on U.S. Highway 96 North at 11 a.m. After a short Christmas rogram, each person will participate in a gift exchange. Members are also asked to bring canned goods for Jasper Cares, and a toy for Toys for Tots. Bluebonnet meeting The Bluebonnett Garden Club will meet Dec. 14 at 6:30 p.m. for gift exchange and Christmas dinner at the home of Beth Waxman. Call by Dec. 11 to RSVP. Gift angels CASA(Court Appointed Special Advocate) is hosting a Gift Angels program. The goal of the program is to provide a special gift for each child. Monthly recycling Texas Beautiful announced that every third weekend recycle bins will be available at Brookshire Brothers parking lot for plastic and steel. Area coordinator Patty Shaw says newspapers can be recycled weekdays by dropping them off at the city transfer station on Hi Truett Road off U. S. Highway 190 North. Proceeds from newspaper recycling benefit the Jasper Library. Cancer control program Jasper-Newton County Public Health District's breast and cervical cancer control program offers women free breast exams, mammography and pap smear. Women with limited income, who have no insurance, Medicaid or Medicare are eligible. Women should be aged 50-64. Those qualifying for this program schould call the Jasper office at 384-6829; Newton office at 379-5291; Kirbyville office at 423-6133 or the Buna office at 994-5921, Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Bereavement luncheon Caring Friends bereavement luncheon for anyone who has lost a loved one is held the third Tuesday of each month at 11 a.m. at the Belle-Jim Hotel. Luncheon is hosted by Lakes Area Hospice (384-5995) and Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home (384-5781). Regional arts East Texas Regional Art Center, located at the corner of Austin and Crockett streets in Jasper features rotating exhibits from national, regional and local artists. The center is open Tuesday- Friday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and Saturdays by appointment. 4-H activities Jasper Community 4-H and Cloverbud kids meet the third Tuesday of every month at 6:30 p.m., at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Jasper. Alzheimer's support The Alzheimer's caregiver support group will meet the second Tuesday of each month at 5:30 p.m. at Dickerson Memorial Hospital. There will be guest speakers and refreshments. Humane Society donations The Jasper Lakes Area Human Society has published a wish list for donations that includes blankets, towels, dog and cat food, cat litter, collars, copy paper and postage stamps. The Thrift Store relocated after Hurricane Rita and is at 149 Water St., phone 383-1800. Donations are tax deductible. Senior Volunteers The Retired Senior Volunteer Program needs volunteers, age 55 and up, to fill many areas of need in Jasper and Newton counties. Call Ginger Studensky at 384-5704, ext. 271. Photography Club The East Texas Photography Club meets the last Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. at the East Texas Art Center in Jasper.
