'Spoon named Mizzou's top special teams player
Former Bulldog making presence felt

University of Missouri freshman and Jasper High School graduate Sean Weatherspoon was named special teams player of the year for the Tigers during their annual football awards banquet.

Weatherspoon played exclusively on special teams for the Big 12 Tigers and led the team during kickoff and punt coverages.

Weatherspoon was named the District 22-3A most valuable player last

year for the Bulldogs as a senior. He made 98 tackles in 2005 for Jasper

Weatherspoon recorded eight tackles for loss in 2005, and added four quarterback sacks and two interceptions from his linebacker position as well, and was a secondteam all-state pick.

While Weatherspoon is expected to play defense for Missouri, he also excelled for the Bulldogs on the offensive end of the field. As a senior, Weatherspoon

gathered in 27 catches for 428 yards and seven touchdowns.

He was a first-team alldistrict selection as a junior in 2004 at linebacker, after registering 105 tackles, six tackles for loss, two quarterback sacks and three interceptions

He is the son of Develous and Elwanda Weatherspoon and is studying business administration at Mizzou's School of Business.
