Jasper Beautiful hosting organization meeting Jasper Beautiful will hold an organizational meeting Thursday, Dec. 21, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Wings Over Jasper on U.S. Highway 96 North. The group held a recycle rally at Brookshire Brothers parking lot in November, and is planning several more in 2007, according to coordinator Patty Shaw. Regular meetings will be held at the Woman’s Civic Club beginning in Jauary. “The money from recycled newspaper is given to the Jasper Public Library,” Shaw said. “Although newspaper makes up the bulk of the collecting, any other paper can be collected also and is recyclable.” Shaw said this is an ongoing project and papers can be dropped off during business hours at the Transfer Station on Hi Truett Road off U.S. Highway 96 North in Jasper. During the recycle rally, the city of Jasper sanitation director Jerry Young provided bins to gather glass, steel, plastics, paper and aluminum cans. The Woman’s Civic Club helped at the recycle bins. Dick White of First United Methodist Church assisted with the clean up of the intersection of U.S. Highways 190 and 96 highway frontage and businesses around the intersection. Jasper Beautiful will hold several more recycle rallies in the city and county before the Texas Trashoff, April 14, 2007. Shaw says, “We want April 14 of next year to be an awards day for the things we have accomplished in Keeping It Beautiful.” |
