Walking the Halls
By VANESSA PHILLIPS Few Primary Principal

Walking the halls of Few Primary the last few days before the holidays, you will see the walls decorated with Christmas artwork. The tree in the foyer is adorned with ornaments made by the students. Amongst all of the festivities of the season, the students are staying focused on their schoolwork, and doing an outstanding job juggling their learning time with their seasonal activities.

Here we are at the end of the first semester, half way through the school year. Please continue encouraging your child to try and make an effort to learn all that he or she can. The opportunities that they have to learn are immense.

Every moment can be a learning moment.

We feel children need a strong educational background and character to face the world of today. Few faculty and staff strive to provide the best instructional strategies, practices, materials, and experiences to assist children in reaching this goal. We ask you, as parents, to join us in educating your child.

Read to your child during the holidays. This develops creativity, curiosity and a love for reading. Count and do simple math functions with Christmas lights, ornaments, or packages. This will show that learning can be fun.

Having fun while learning:

Fifteen of our students participated in the UIL competition held in Kirbyville. They competed against students from Kirbyville, Silsbee, and Sour Lake.

The students prepared after school and practiced at home for several weeks prior to the event. They all did an outstanding job representing Few Primary and we are proud of all them.

The participants for each event:

Storytelling - Kylie Boulware, Preslie Hancock (1st), Abby Jeansonne (3rd), and Anna Seale (4th). Coached by Renee Dickerson.

Creative Writing - Katie Bailey (1st), Taylor Bryant (6th), Allan Pulliam (4th), and Joey Ryan. Coached by Judy Dickerson.

Spelling - Byron Gill (4th), Natalie Floyd (2nd), Hannah Pierce (4th), and Michael Weber. Coached by Julie Morgan.

Math - Jacob Biscamp, Victor Corral (2nd), and Joseph Muir (2nd). Coached by Diane Holmes.

The students enjoyed a day of wearing pajamas and watching a movie. It was cold, however the students shuffled around in their house shoes and PJ’s and were ready to participate in the day’s events.

The most popular movie watched was the “Polar Express”; teachers enriched the movie by reading the book and having students do various activities for better understanding — a learning experience while having fun.

The NED Show (Never give up * Encourage others * Do your best) presented by All For KIDZ visited our campus. Students were treated to an assembly that emphasized the importance of having good character and to work hard in the classroom every day.

The message was reinforced through brain-based education in that the child learns while doing something fun - yo-yoing. The show came to us at no cost; however we will be selling the yo-yos the week we return from the holidays. The children were entertained and the message will last a lifetime. Once again, a learning experience while having fun.

Along with seeing students in our halls, you will see our PRIDE volunteers actively helping at school. Last week they did “Pictures with Santa” and the week before the holidays, they did their annual Snowflake Shoppe.

This gives students the opportunity to purchase presents for family and/or friends at a reasonable price and teaches them

how to use their money wisely while buying items for their loved ones.

When walking the halls of Few Primary you will see learning occurring everywhere; our parents, teachers, staff and administrators are all partners in the education of each child at Few Primary.

Our goal is to create a strong educational foundation for all students.
