Jasper board approves measure to hold trustee elections with city

The Jasper Independent School District Board of Trustees approved a resolution to hold trustee elections in conjunction with the city of Jasper.

This move comes as a result of a special session of the Texas Legislature which added a new Education Code Section 11.0581 which states that school districts must hold elections for trustees jointly either with a municipality located in the school district or with those political subdivisions holding the general election for state and county offices.

The joint election will be held in May which is the normal time for both the city and school district. Details, such as polling places, will be worked out at a later date.

The board also approved the following new appointments:

Susan Armstrong - B.A., Stephen F. Austin State University, Spanish teacher at Jasper High School

Stephanie Carlton - B.A., Stephen F. Austin State University, Reading teacher, Jasper Junior High School

Samatha White - B.S., Stephen F. Austin State University, Math teacher at Jasper Junior High School.
