Powerlifters claim first at opener

Jasper varsity boys powerlifting team took first place with 35 points in the season opener in Woodville this past weekend. Jomar Cauley, Marques Johnson and Travon Limbrick set meet records.

"We are proud of all of these young men," coach Eric Farrar said. "They performed with a great attitude and relentless pursuit to achieve their goals."

Cauley placed first in the super heavy weight division with a total of 1,515. He also set a meet record on the bench press with an impressive lift of 450 pounds.

Johnson took the top spot in the 242 division with a total of 1,350, and set a meet record on bench with 315 pounds and on dead lift with 505 pounds.

Limbrick was second in the 132 division with a total of 1,050. He set a meet record on dead lift with 445 pounds.

Second place finishes went to Trae Horn in the 198 class with a total lift of 1,065 and David Beck in the 148 weight class with a total of 1,065.

Raymond Hafford finished third in the 275 division with a total of 1,290; Xavier Mays was third in the 165.

Junior varsity lifters Cliff Mitchell and Steven Shives earned first place in the 220 and 275, respectively. Mitchell's total was 1,065; Shives had a total of 1,035.

The girls also competed at Woodville with four lifters earning points.

Chanel Lewis took first place in the 105 weight class with a total of 430 pounds.

Second place went to Kimyona Lee in the 198 class. Lee had a total of 665.

Tamala Hafford finished third in the 97 pound class with a total of 410, and Jaleesa Johnson was fourth in the 132. Her total was 530.

Both teams will compete at Shepherd High School, Jan. 20.
