Youth Trout Derby to cast off Saturday

THE BANKS of the Jasper city pond were full last year as young anglers participated in the Jasper Youth Trout Derby. A large crowd is expected this Saturday as well.
Youth anglers will be casting in droves this Saturday at the Jasper city pond.

The 6th annual Jasper Youth Trout Derby will be held Saturday as the Texas Parks and Wildlife Inland Fisheries Division has stocked the pond with 1,800 rainbow trout.

The event will be held from 10 a.m. to noon for youth 16 years and younger.

No pre-registration is required. Prizes will be awarded in three different age categories for largest trout, smallest trout and largest other species caught.

Drawings for additional prizes will take place at the conclusion of the event. A very limited number or rods and reels will be provided but all participants are strongly encouraged to bring their own fishing equipment.

Fishing bait and terminal tackle will be provided. Free hot dogs and drinks will be served. The first 100 kids at the event will receive a goodie bag.

No fishing licenses are required for youth 16 years of age and younger. The daily bag limit for rainbow trout is five fish and participants are welcome to harvest up to five trout at the event.
