Cox, Kervin capture Anglers Quest series on Rayburn

Anglers Quest 2007 Super Team Series #1 blasted off at on Lake Sam Rayburn with 80 teamed anglers showing up to go for the all cash purse of $6325.00.

This series will provide the "Team Anglers of the Year" with free entries to all 2008 Super Team series events. The Super Team series championship will be a two-day event held on Sam Rayburn for the Top 25 in points or any team entering all five events on June 30-July 1, 2007, this will be a no entry fee championship with $5,000 guaranteed going to the winner.

Top seven from this Series will advance to the "Tournament of Champions" which will again be held on Lake Tyler on Nov. 10-11, and will have a maximum of 30 teams from all A/Q series go to a very exciting $10,000 to the winner Championship.

The air temp at take-off was 72 degrees with a warming to 82 degrees at weigh in time. The water was at approximately 1/2 ft. above pool level with water temps running 59-60 degrees in the main lake.

The fishing was very good on Big Sam today as 29 limits were brought to the scales for a total of 160 bass at 408.86 lbs making the average bass brought to the scales today weigh 2.55 lb.

George Cox, Jr from Humble and Jimmy Kervin from Crosby ran Jimmy's Ranger Z-21/Yamaha bass rig to mid and north lake areas to cull to their limit of five bass casting crank baits to 15 ft. deep grass edges and ended up with 24.31 lbs. to finish in first place and collect the A/Q "Goal Posts" and $2600.00.

Cox and Kervin reported not having but one keeper in the boat at noon, but at 12:30 p.m. the bite turned on with their reels spooled with 20 lb. big game line. Cox hung a fish of a life time for most anglers to land a huge bass, a 12.27 lber. to anchor their bag for the win and a total of $2840.

Pete Elliot from Vidor and Danny Cherry from Kountze fished together today and gathered up their five bass and ended up with 17.93 lbs. to finish in second place and collect $1,100.

Chris McCall from Jasper and Pete Shivers from Kirbyville ran Chris's A&W wrapped bass rig to numerous areas on the lake to catch their best five bass to bring to the scales to capture third place and $600. Mike Dorcz from Humble and Eddie Harrison from Huffman powered Mike's Bullet/Mercury bass rig to numerous creek areas with grass ledges to catch their best five bass of 16.99 lbs. to garner fourth place and $400 for their day on the water.

Jeff Jackowski and Kevin Ekdall finished their day with their limit of five bass at 16.41 lbs. and collected fifth place and $350. Stan and Steve Burgay finished in sixth place with 16.12 lbs. and collected $325. Steve and David Morton finished their day in seventh place with 15.11 lbs. and collected $300. Jason Reyes and Jeremy Murray finished in eighth place with 14.87 lbs. in one of the TIREMAX wrapped Ranger/Yamaha boats and collected the last check of $250.
