Bluebonnet Garden Club

NARFE meeting

The Silsbee-Jasper chapter of the National Association of Retired and Current Federal Employees will meet today, Jan. 17, at 11 a.m. Catfish Cabin on U.S. Highway 96 North. Monthly meetings will alternate between Jasper at the Catfish Cabin and Silsbee at St. Mark's Catholic educational building.

Social Security

The local Social Security representative will be in Jasper at the Senior Center on Fletcher Street on Thursday, Jan. 18, from 9 a.m. to noon and in Newton at the old hospital building from 1-3 p.m. on the same day. Most Social Security business can be handled online or by phone, 800 772- 1213, but this opportunity is provided for those who require or prefer direct contact.

Garage Sale

Community Church of Jasper at 720 S. Wheeler will hold a garage sale Jan. 25-26 from 4-7 p.m. and Jan. 27 from 8 a.m. to noon.

Tyler Concert

The Tyler County Art League will hold a concert featuring Maurice and Friends Jan. 26 at 7 p.m. at the First Christian Curch at 109 N. Charlton, Woodville. Tickets are $7. For more information contact the Tyler County Art League at 283-2788.

Valentine banquet

Community Church of Jasper will hold a valentine banquet Feb. 10 at 6:30 p.m. to raise funds for the community wide youth rally in March. Call Kym Kilcrease at 594-8379 or Kristi Dyer at 384-6981 for ticket information.

Cancer benefit

Young Years Day Care on West Houston Street will host a benefit garage sale Saturday, Feb. 10 (rain date Feb. 17) from 7 a.m. - 4 p.m. Proceeds go to assist George Block in his battle with cancer. For questions call Shonda at 384-5210.

Clothes closet

Community Church of Jasper is requesting donations of winter coats and clothing for their clothes closet. For moreinformation call the church at 384-4848 or Kym Kilcrease at 594- 8379.

Monthly recycling

Texas Beautiful announced that every third weekend recycle bins will be available at the southeast corner of the Community Church parking lot for things like plastic and steel. Area coordinator Patty Shaw says newspapers can be recycled any weekday by dropping them off at the city transfer station on Hi Truett Road. Proceeds from newspaper recycling benefit the Jasper Library.

Regional arts

East Texas Regional Art Center, located at the corner of Austin and Crockett streets in Jasper features rotating exhibits from national, regional and local artists. Art classes and workshops are available. The art league meets the first Monday of each month and is open to the public. For more information call 384-2404 or 489- 9460. The center is open Tuesday-Friday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and Saturdays by appointment.

4-H activities

Jasper Community 4-H and Cloverbud kids meet the third Tuesday of every month at 6:30 p.m., at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Jasper. For more information on 4-H call Nicole Hamilton at 384-7866; for Cloverbud Kids call Betty Morton at 384-2604 or Charla James at 384-7866. 4-H shooting sports group meets the fourth Tuesday at 6 p.m. at the Junior Livestock barn;call Jimmy or Dru Miller at 384-9900.

Alzheimer's support

The Alzheimer's caregiver support group will meet the second Tuesday of each month at 5:30 p.m. at Dickerson Memorial Hospital. There will be guest speakers and refreshments. For more information call Lela at 698-9308 or Marty at 383-2388.

Senior Volunteers

The Retired Senior Volunteer Program needs volunteers, age 55 and up, to fill many areas of need in Jasper and Newton counties. Call Ginger Studensky at 384-5704, ext. 271.
