Faces & Places Garage Sale Community Church of Jasper at 720 S. Wheeler will hold a garage sale Jan. 25-26 from 4-7 p.m. and Jan. 27 from 8 a.m. to noon. Tyler Concert The Tyler County Art League will hold a concert featuring Maurice and Friends Jan. 26 at 7 p.m. at the First Christian Church at 109 N. Charlton, Woodville. Tickets are $7. Photography Club The next East Texas Photography Club meeting is Jan. 30 at 7 p.m. The meeting place has changed to the council room behind Jasper City Hall on Main Street. Each meeting there is a program designed to increase members' knowledge of photography techniques or equipment, and a photo contest. For more information call 383-0828. Mini-conferences Jasper Independent School District parent miniconferences will be held Tuesday, Jan. 30 at Jasper High School. A book fair will be held at 4:30 p.m. followed by a spaghetti dinner at 5 p.m. and sessions from 6-8 p.m. Bluebird Birdhouse Day Martin Dies Jr. State Park is hosting its annual Bluebird Birdhouse Day Feb. 3 from 10 a.m. to noon. The even will be held in the dining hall/group shelter building in the Walnut unit of the park. Bluebird Birdhouse kits and assembled houses will be available for a $5 donation. For more information, call 384-5231. Machu Picchu The next meeting of the Deep East Texas Archeological Society will be Monday, Feb. 5 at 7 p.m. at the Newton County History Center. Sharon Kerr will present this month's program on "The Mystique of Machu Picchu." Valentine banquet Community Church of Jasper will hold a valentine banquet Feb. 10 at 6:30 p.m. to raise funds for the community wide youth rally in March. Cancer benefit Young Years Day Care on West Houston Street will host a benefit garage sale Saturday, Feb. 10 (rain date Feb. 17) from 7 a.m. - 4 p.m. Proceeds go to assist George Block in his battle with cancer. For questions call Shonda at 384-5210. Clothes closet Community Church of Jasper is requesting donations of winter coats and clothing for their clothes closet. Monthly recycling Texas Beautiful announced that every third weekend recycle bins will be available at the southeast corner of the Community Church parking lot for things like plastic and steel. Area coordinator Patty Shaw says newspapers can be recycled any weekday by dropping them off at the city transfer station on Hi Truett Road. Proceeds from newspaper recycling benefit the Jasper Library. Cancer control program Jasper-Newton County Public Health District's breast and cervical cancer control program offers women free breast exams, mammography and pap smear. Women aged 50-64 with limited income, who have no insurance, Medicaid or Medicare are eligible.
