Bulldogs claim second place finish at Nederland tourney
Claim 7-0 win over Hardin-Jefferson in scrimmage

The Jasper Bulldog soccer team opened their season with a string of wins, finishing third overall in the Nederland tournament and beating Hardin- Jefferson in scrimmage.

After losing 3-1 to Vidor in the tournament, they beat our Port Neches-Groves 1-0 and Nederland 3-2.

Senior Jose Navarro scored the only goal against both Vidor and PN-G. Navarro, Jose Hernandez and junior Zach Riggins contributed one goal each in the win over Nederland.

"After losing the first game, we were able to regroup and focus on the job at hand," coach Troy Carpenter said. "The team is starting to develop and play together as a unit. We are a young team in both classification and experience. I am looking forward to a great season and the continued positive development of this team."

Jasper scrimmaged Hardin- Jefferson Jan. 5, taking a 7-0 win.

Sophomore Guillermo Hernandez scored two goals as did freshman Ossama Zafar. Navarro, Riggins and sophomore Earnesto Medrano contributed one goal each. Riggins and Navarro had two assists each; juniors Kaleb Burrows and Todd Shipman had one each.

Last week's game was canceled due to bad weather. They will play their first district game at home, Jan. 30 against Henderson. Game time is 6 p.m.
