Deadline nears for city elections

Candidate's filing for two city council positions and the mayor's seat will begin Feb. 10 and end March 12.

Council positions District 1, District 2 and the mayor's seat are up for election this year. Joe Clyde Adams, Gayle Meigs and David Barber currently hold the positions, respectively.

Qualifications for candidates seeking office for any position in the city of Jasper include being a resident citizen of the city for a period of not less than six months immediately preceding the date of election, a qualified voter in the state of Texas, 18 years of age or over, and shall not be indebted to the city of Jasper.

The qualified voters of the city shall elect the position of mayor.

Council members in District 1 and 2 shall be elected by qualified voters residing in Districts 1 and 2 as established by ordinance.

Anyone interested in filing for the election should contact city secretary Tommy Boykin at Jasper City Hall for filing papers.
