VIPs needed to rebuild Martin Dies State Park

The next Volunteers in the Park workday will take place Feb. 10 at Martin Dies Jr. State Park at 9 a.m.

The VIP program was designed to allow volunteers to help rebuild parts of the park damaged by Hurricane Rita. Past workdays focused on clearing park trails, allowing visitors to bike or hike safely.

Tentative plans for the Feb. 10 workday include replanting flowerbeds by split rail fences at the park entrances and re-establishing flower boxes found throughout the park.

Future plans include repairing/rebuilding the walkways and landscape timbers in the wildscape-herb garden and park headquarters flowerbeds.

Refreshments and light lunch will be provided. Call the park at 384-5231 for more
