Mayor to honor Cook's life work
Book signing postponed to Feb. 10 at historic Belle Jim

W.P. Cook
The W.P. Cook family will receive a proclamation honoring their famous ancestor from Jasper Mayor David Barber Thursday, Feb. 1, at city hall at 10 a.m.

Signing and first sale of the book, "W.P. Cook, Contractor and Builder," has been rescheduled for Saturday, Feb. 10, at 2:30 p.m. at the Belle Jim Hotel on the courthouse square.

A family research project for years, the book has photos and descriptions of homes and buildings constructed in J a s p e r between 1890 and 1934.

Bitsy Hanna compiled information gathered from family members, The Jasper Newsboy, and county clerk's records. Several people contributed photos, and Bill Wise donated use of many of his watercolors of historic homes and buildings.

The Historical Commission and the county financed printing of the book, which will be sold at the book signing and through the Jasper Library.
