Faces & Places Bluebird Birdhouse Day Martin Dies Jr. State Park is hosting its annual Bluebird Birdhouse Day Feb. 3 from 10 a.m. to noon. The event will be held in the dining hall/group shelter building in the Walnut unit of the park. Bluebird birdhouse kits and assembled houses will be available for a $5 donation. Cancer benefit Young Years Day Care on West Houston Street will host a benefit garage sale Saturday, Feb. 10 (rain date Feb. 17) from 7 a.m. - 4 p.m. Proceeds go to assist George Block in his battle with cancer. Pruning day The Lakes Rose Society will hold its annual pruning day Saturday, Feb. 17 (or Feb. 24, if it's raining) at 9 a.m. at the Jasper city hall rose beds. Spoon River Anthology Edgar Lee Master's play "Spoon River Anthology," a story of small town life, is being performed Feb. 23-24 at 7 p.m. and Feb. 25 at 2 p.m. at Woodville's Eagle Summit. Cancer control program Jasper-Newton County Public Health District's breast and cervical cancer control program offers women free breast exams, mammography and pap smear. Women aged 50-64 with limited income, who have no insurance, Medicaid or Medicare are eligible.
