Foul or felony?
THE FIRE DEPARTMENT was called out to neutralize gasoline in a storm drain on Water Street last Friday morning. Fire Marshal Stephen Williamson said a chemical similar to soap absorbed it without damage to the environment."The storm drain and the sewer system are separate systems, so this did not occur by someone pouring gasoline down a sink," Williamson said. The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality will investigate. "If the culprit is identified, discharging chemicals illegally is punishable as a felony," according to Williamson.
