Walking the halls
BY VANESSA PHILLIPS, Principal Few Primary

Here we are mid-way through the year, and before we know it, it will be May 24. Few Primary's motto is "Building a Foundation of Excellence."

Few Primary is where the children of our community begin their education foundation. We have to start each of them on a road to success. In so doing, our goal at the end of the school year is that each child has progressed and learned to the best of their abilities, and we are confident that each will be successful the next school year.

The teachers in Kindergarten, first and second grade have completed administering the mid-year TPRI (Texas Primary Reading Instrument) to all students.

The Texas Legislature requires this diagnostic reading inventory be administered three times a year to each student. The information that is gathered is very beneficial.

Teachers and parents are able to monitor the child's progress throughout the year as well as year to year. We want the best reading foundation for all of our students; a strong reader will be successful.

Students discover that reading can be fun. Our students had the opportunity to be entertained by Todd McKinney, "The Magic Man," last week. His "Read to Succeed" program motivates students to become good readers. His high energy, fun-filled, program captivated the students and encouraged the students to want to become good, strong readers.
