By CHARLES KERR

SCOTT DAVID holds up a winning pair for first place in the Bass-N-Bucks event on Rayburn.
The second Bass-N-Bucks tournament for the 2007 season was held Feb. 4 and started with 227 boats in the water at Lake Sam Rayburn.

At 6:55 a.m. when it began, it was chilly, but by afternoon the temperature had climbed to 57 degrees under clear skies. Water temperature was in the fifties.

Of the top thirty places, 28 teams landed the limit of five fish. The other two teams landed four fish. The total weight for the top thirty teams was 523.63 pounds for 148 fish. All of the large fish were female and heavy with eggs. Fishermen commented that the fish are ready to go to the beds.

As early weigh-in began at 2 p.m., the fish count was low and total weights were only in the five-pound range. As boats continued to come in, those numbers went up quickly. By 4 p.m., eight limits (5) were over 20 pounds with one limit over 30 pounds.

First place and $10,000 went to the team of Harold Moore and Scott David with a weight of 31.83 pounds. The biggest two fish were 9.22 and 9.24 pounds.

BILL ROGERS holds up the big bass fish for the tournament.
Both teammates said fishing was hard; they only had five bites for the day. The only secret they would reveal is that they were fishing in brush. They were being closelipped because of the upcoming FLW Stren fishing tournament Feb. 11.

Second place went to the father and son team of Cary Talbot and James Talbot with a weight of 24.90 pounds. This team took home $4,000.00.

They plan on fishing the next tournament, they were also fishing the brush, but would not discuss baits or locations.

Third place and $3,000 went to the team of Todd Soape and Artie Longron with 21.98 pounds. The team was fishing brush, caught 12 fish and had to cull four times.

The big bass check went to the team of Bill Rogers and Steve Francis with a 10.78- pound fish.

Rogers said, "We were fishing in 26 feet of water over brush using Carolina-rigged soft baits."

Of the five fish taken by this team, the two biggest fish were caught in the deeper water and the remaining three fish came from 12 to 16 feet of water, all over brush using Carolina- rigged soft baits.
