Bulldogs fall short in opening district contests
By GEORGIA PURDY

JASPER'S DAVID CLEVELAND takes control of the ball from a Henderson player.
The Jasper Bulldog soccer team came up short last week in their first two district games, losing 5-1 to Henderson and 9-0 to Center.

Ossama Zafar scored the only goal against Henderson. Zach Riggins and Jacob Horn assisted him.

"Henderson was very well trained," coach Troy Carpenter said. "They kept the ball away from us the majority of the first half. Our defense broke down for a number of reasons and hopefully we will get that fixed."

Carpenter said his team played a better second half. They were able to get a few more opportunities at the goal, but missed on those tries. Everyone got to see action in the Henderson game.

Carpenter expressed hope for a better contest against Center Friday night, but foul weather kept the team off of the practice field much of the week and several players were absent due to various situations.

"Alex Guadian stepped up and performed as well as he could against Center," Carpenter said. "He took over the goalie position and worked very well for us. Center is a talented team and we struggled because we had a number of players out of their regular positions. Hopefully, we will solve these kinds of problems and get on the winning track very soon."

Jasper played Palestine at home last night and will be on the road against Palestine Friday night.
