      It may seem strange to be discussing Christmas plans on Valentine's Day, but if your goal is to have the biggest tour of homes that Jasper has ever seen, start early, according to Darlene Nolen, president of the Woman's Civic Club.

      AUTHOR BITSY HANNAH signed one of the first copies of "W.P. Cook, Contractor and Builder," for historian Bertie Bryant. Cook built "half the fine homes and buildings" in Jasper a hundred years ago.

Kids practice show techniques at Bash
      The first annual Winter Bash junior livestock show will be held this Saturday, Feb. 17, at the Jasper County show barn on FM 777 near the airport. Check-in starts at 7 a.m. and the show begins at 9 a.m. Categories include steers, breeding beef, goats, lambs and swine. Entry fee is $20.

ELA TAKS tutorials earn extra credit
      Jasper High School will offer tutorials in room 202 for ELA TAKS (English Language Arts for Texas Assessment of Knowledge Skills) after school until 7 p.m. each night through Monday, Feb. 19, according to Sherri Elmer, JHS liaison. The TAKS ELA test will be held Feb. 20.
