Coleman tabbed as interim AD The Jasper Independent School District Board of Trustees approved Chris Coleman as interim Athletic Director at their regular meeting Monday, Feb. 12. Coleman, who served as AD before becoming Director of Human Resources, will fill the slot vacated by Danny Lauve who resigned to take another position with the Elgin School District. "We hope to be able to fill the position soon," Acting Superintendent Butch Dean said. "We selected Coleman so as to not give any unfair advantage to any assistant coach who might apply for the job." The board also approved two new appointments: Whitney Brockman, B.A. Sam Houston State University, Special Education teacher at Parnell Elementary School and Karrah Edgerton, R.N., Board of Nurse Examiners for the State of Texas, nurse at Rowe Intermediate School. The trustee election was set for Saturday, May 12, to be held in conjunction with the city of Jasper election. Although those are separate elections, they will be held in the same places: Parnell, City Hall, Jasper High School, and Mount Olive Baptist Church. Julie Dickerson will be the election administrator. School board member Brenda Job said that the public should be informed that the school trustee election is for everyone who lives in Jasper Independent School District, not just those who live in the city. Trustees whose terms expire in May include Carolyn Armitage and Dr. James Hamilton (appointed to complete the remainder of Kim Osberg's term), each for a full three-year term. Applications for a place on the ballot shall be filed less than sixty-two days prior to the date of the election. Applications shall be filed with Linda Coleman at the JISD Administration Office beginning Tuesday, Feb. 13. The purchase of two new vehicles was also approved: a 2007 Chevrolet Suburban for $28,120 and a 2007 Crown Victoria for $18,824. Carolyn Foster said that all current vehicles have over 100,000 miles and the suburban they are now using has over 200,000 miles on it. Other board actions include the following items: Rescheduled March Board meeting for Monday, March 12, because the original date coincides with Spring Break. Approved a bid in the amount of $500 for .12 acre submitted by Billy Musgraves. The property was originally sold with other parcels, but the original bidder asked to have his bid withdrawn. Approved the campus and district plans submitted by the District Site Base committee. At the conclusion of the meeting, Public School Week was announced for March 5 through March 9. The community is encouraged to visit the various campuses that week. A school visit only requires that visitors check in at the main office of the campus. |
