Faces & Places Free screenings The East Texas Health Access Network (ETHAN) will offer free cholesterol and blood pressure screenings every Wednesday in February from 8:30-11:30 a.m. at 117 W. Social Security The Social Security representative will be in Jasper at the senior center on Fletcher Thursday, Feb. 15, 9 a.m. until noon, and in Newton at the old hospital building 1-3 p.m. that same day. Cardboard, paper, plastics, and #1 or 2 cans may be recycled. Newspapers are collected at the transfer station off High Truitt Road. Rowe Elementary and Jasper Junior High are also collecting aluminum cans as part of the Jasper Beautiful campaign. Games Day United Methodist Women will host their third annual Game Day Friday, Feb. 16 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Wesley Center. A light lunch will be served. Tickets are $8 per person and may be purchased from UMW members or from the office of First United Methodist Church. Tag in is from 7-9 a.m., show starts at 9 a.m. Freedom Train Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church in in Kirbyville will host the play "Freedom Train" in honor of black history month Feb. 17 at 7 p.m. Pruning day The Lakes Rose Society will hold its annual pruning day Saturday, Feb. 17 (or Feb. 24, if it's raining) at 9 a.m. at the Jasper city hall rose beds. Pruning demonstrations and cutting give-aways free to everyone. Retired federal employees The Silsbee-Jasper chapter 1319 of the National Association of Retired Federal and Current Federal Employees will meet for a sack lunch Feb. 21 at 11 a.m. in Silsbee at St. Mark's Catholic Eductional Building. Beautiful meeting The Keep Jasper Beautiful campaign will meet Feb. 22 at 10 a.m. at the Woman's Civic Club at 156 W. Milam to discuss future cleanups and recycling. Spoon River Anthology Edgar Lee Master's play "Spoon River Anthology," a story of small town life, is being performed Feb. 23-24 at 7 p.m. and Feb. 25 at 2 p.m. at Woodville's Eagle Summit.
