Newton students show Lions their technology skills

Fourth grade students Dalaina Richmond, Meaghan Morgan, Shadow Stephens, and Maria Lewis-Hudson will be the guests at the next noon lunch meeting of the Newton Lions Club Feb. 15 at First Baptist Church.

The four fourth grade students represented Newton at the Texas Capitol Schoolhouse (TCSF) event in Austin recently. The Newton Elementary School was one of only 15 schools recommended by the Texas Education Agency and then selected by the TCSF to participate.

This event takes places every other year when the Legislature is in session to demonstrate to legislators how technology dollars are being utilized in public schools. The children set up a table with several devices (laptop, printer, DANA, scientific probes) to show how they use the tools to conduct research and record their thoughts, ideas, and data.

They will set up a similar table, conduct a demonstration, and tell about their favorite memories of the trip.

The Lions Club is an international service organization, and our Lions Club supports the local community and the Newton Independent School System with various projects and funds.
