Jasper drops contests to Palestine, Jacksonville
By GEORGIA PURDY

JASPER'S AFFAN ZAFAR tries to regain control of the ball during the Bulldogs contest with Jacksonville. Jasper lost to Jacksonville 12-0
The Jasper Bulldog soccer team was held scoreless against both Palestine and Jacksonville last week.

"Tuesday, we played Palestine here and played a good first 25 minutes," coach Troy Carpenter said. "Then the game got out of hand and we lost 1-0. There were several defensive breakdowns and unaggressive plays that led to many of our opponents easy scores."

Carpenter said they have worked being aggressive and keeping possession of the ball.

"These are still major problems and we will continue to work on these skills," he said.

Friday, the team lost 12-0 to Jacksonville.

"We were out-manned and out-gunned in the first half," he said. "Jacksonville is a very skilled team. They broke down our defense in the first half. At half-time, we made some adjustments and held them to one goal for about 25 minutes into the second half before giving up three more scores. We also subbed heavily in the second half."

Carpenter said they will make even more changes before playing Livingston where they hope to pick up their first district win.

JASPER'S CAROLINE KIPP scored the Lady Bulldogs' only goal during a 3-1 loss to Jacksonville.
"Our goal with Livingston is to put a whole half together and finish strong at the end," he said. "I'm proud of the way we played the second half against Jacksonville and hope to build on that effort."
