RSVP gets seniors involved with life

Studensky
The Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) volunteers from Kirbyville and Jasper were honored at a lunch donated by Elijah's at St. Michael's Catholic Church last Friday.

RSVP functions as a placement agency to match the interests and talents of people age 55 and up with volunteer opportunities at non-profit organizations.

DETCOG president Joe Folk, retired Jasper County Judge, was keynote speaker. He acknowledged that many programs within Jasper County rely on the time and work donated by RSVP volunteers.

"We could not function without our volunteers," agreed librarian Denise Milton.

Ginger Studensky, coordinator of the RSVP program, has a favorite saying for her volunteers, "If you don't stay involved with life, how can you expect life to stay involved with you?"

Volunteer opportunities are available in many programs, some for as little as a few hours a week. For more information, call Studensky at 384-5704, ext. 271.
