Young optimistic for basketball program's future

The Jasper Bulldog basketball team finished the season Tuesday night with a 73-60 win over Orangefield and fourth place in the district.

Jasper got behind 18-11 in the first quarter but rallied for 18 points to Orangefield's 10 in the second.

The Bulldogs dominated the second half and closed down their opponents 21-15 and 23-17 in the third and fourth periods.

"Seniors Roman Land and Keith Graham closed out their high school careers with strong performances," coach Terry Young said.

Land was high with 19 points, followed by Graham, 18. Land had five assists, one block, one deflection, one steal, and 11 rebounds. Graham grabbed 13 rebounds, with two steals, one block and two deflections.

Dominique Bailey had 13 points, four rebounds, three deflections, and four s teals. DJ Jackson had seven rebounds.

"Now we are excited about moving up our JV kids who won 19 games this season and have 37 wins over the past two years," Young said. "They bring a ton of effort and energy that will enhance next year's team."

Young said he feels they had a good season and the fan support was positive.

"Many thanks to our fans, the parents, teachers, school administration, and my assistants," he said. "All of our supporters played a positive role this year."
