Jasper drops 2-1 decision to Hudson
By GEORGIA PURDY Newsboy Correspondent

The Jasper Lady Bulldog softball opened regular season last week with a 2-1 loss to Hudson after a scorelss game through four innings.

Hudson first scored on an error in the fifth and then again on a hit. Jasper came back with a run scored by Haley Walker. Walker got on with a hit and stole second base. Keyna Mason doubled to center field bringing in Jasper's only run.

The Lady 'Dogs had several hits but left runners on base. First baseman Lizzy White and pitcher Jesse Cordova both had hits. Walker was two for three.

"Jesse did a good job pitching," coach Nancy Walker said. "She struck out two, walked two, and had a base hit to left center."

Walker said she was pleased with her team's performance even though they didn't win.

"I think we played better as a team," she said. "We just need to keep working hard on hitting and fielding. It's the little things that get you beat in a tight ball game and that's what beat us in this game. Our goal is to get better each game."

Junior varsity lost 7-0.

"JV struggled at the plate," Walker said. "They are very young and need to play and learn the game. We have mostly freshmen and it's a new level of play for most of the girls. Coach Geeslin is working with our pitchers and Coach Carroll is working with the outfielders. We are all working on hitting."

The Lady Bulldogs will host the Jasper Lakes Area Classic Tournament Feb. 22, 23, and 24.

On Thursday, varsity will play Colmesneil at 10:45 a.m. and East Chambers at 12:45 p.m. Friday, they play Martinsville at 12:45 p.m. Mand Warren at 7 p.m.

The top four in each pool goes to bracket play Saturday.
