Bulldogs drop 4-2 contest to Lions The Jasper Bulldog soccer team lost 4-2 to Livingston Tuesday night in a close contest. "This was a real close game that we should have had," coach Troy Carpenter said. "We missed some goal shots early and then broke down on defense with two minutes left to go. It was a pretty physical game and I was proud of the way we started to attack the ball and our aggressiveness." Ossma Zafar scored the first goal and Guerillmo Hernandez scored the second. "We missed a penalty kick along with several other opportunities to score in the second half," he said. "All in all it was an exciting game and we hope to build on this effort and get us an victory soon." They faced a very tough Nacogdoches team Friday night and a disappointing 9- 0 loss, with most of the goals coming in the second half. The Jasper defense kept Nacogdoches to a 1-0 lead at the end of the first half. "In the second half, the wheels came off," Carpenter said. "The Dragons played for the pass and controlled the ball pretty much all night against us. Our defense did a good job in the first half but began to wear down in the second." Zach Riggins was injured in Tuesday's game and had to sit out Friday. Carpenter said. "We were missing a key player with Zach out," he said. "Hopefully we will have him back by Tuesday against Hudson. Neither of us has won a game in district yet, so barring a tie, we are looking to get out of the cellar." They were finishing the first round against Lufkin Hudson last night and will be at home Feb. 27 against Center. |
