By GEORGIA PURDY Newsboy Correspondent

Jasper High School's tennis team competed in the Kelly Classic Tournament. Kelsey Wilson reached the semi-finals in the Girls B singles.

She defeated Jessica Martin of Shepherd 6-3, 6-4. She then defeated Booth of Dayton 6-2, 6-3, and lost in the semifinals to Meredity Miller of Bridge City 6-3, 64.

"Kelsey has a great attitude and work ethic," coach Stacy Gillis said.

Harlena Hadnot reached the quarterfinals in the Girls C singles. Hadnot defeated Sabrianne Alfaro of Hamshire-Fannett 6-3, 6- 3. She also beat out Vaneza Ceja of Bridge City 6-2, 6-3, and was then defeated by Kristen Moor of West Brook 6-2, 6-2.

"Harlena is looking to build upon last year," Gillis said. "She is only a junior so she is looking to take her game to the next level."

Christian Navarette and Zach Wise lost to Huynh/Min of Westbrook in the second round of Boys C Doubles. Tomika Cooper had to default due to injury in her Girls B Singles match.

"The tennis program has grown and the players have a willingness to work and to accept instruction," Gillis said.

The team will compete in the Orange County tournament March 2-3.
