Annie Washington celebrates 100

Washington
Miss Annie Washington will turn 100 years old next Tuesday, March 13, To celebrate that milestone, Jasper Nursing and Rehabilitation at 350 Springhill Rd. is holding an open house and birthday party from 2-4 p.m., according to activities director William Hoffman.

Miss Annie has lived in Jasper all her life. In her younger years she was active in many local churches and Bible study groups. She is currently Queen Mother of the Jasper Rehab Red Hat group.

She never had children of her own. Until she was 98, she lived with her sister, Helen Jackson.

"She came in doing for herself," Hoffman said, "She just needed help with her medications. She still does quite a few things on her own, like braiding her own hair."

Miss Annie also serves on the residents' council, which recently selected new paint colors, drapes and a chandelier for the dining room.

Hoffman said he is concerned that there doesn't seem to be much family locally. Relatives came to visit over Christmas, but they all lived far away. He hopes people from local churches will recognize Miss Annie and come by Tuesday afternoon to enjoy refreshments with her.

For more information, call Hoffman at 384-5411.
