Walking the Halls
By BETTY POWERS Parnell Elementary Principal

I am sure there are some who would disagree, but it seems to me that this school year has "flown by." We just completed our first round of TAKS assessments, and in less than a week we will be enjoying spring break.

We were very pleased with the effort our students made on the TAKS assessment because they worked hard, used their strategies, and took their time. Most importantly, they realized the importance of doing their very best. Our next round of assessments will be April 17 and 18.

On the April 17, both third and fourth grade will be taking TAKS math, and on the 18th our fourth graders will be taking TAKS reading. We have begun after-school tutorials. As always, our teachers and students are continuing to work hard in preparation for those tests.

JISD is celebrating

Texas Public School Week," this week. The theme this year is "One Texas - One Vision - All Children." The Retired Teacher's Association visited our campus and ate with us on Monday.

We were excited about that. Thursday night, March 8, we will host a Family Game & TAKS Night, which will begin at 6 p.m. We hope that family members of Parnell students will plan to come.

We anticipate a great time together where we can show parents some of the fun and motivational ways we use to help students learn. Refreshments will be served, and door prizes will be given away.

In closing, I would remind each of you of our upcoming spring break. The dates are March 12-16. I hope that everyone has a safe and enjoyable break. We look forward to seeing our students return on Monday, March 19.
