Lady Bulldogs claim second at Newton Eagle Invitational

The Jasper Lady Bulldog track team took second place with 155 points at the Newton Eagle Invitational meet Saturday. It was Jasper's first meet of the season.

"I'm excited," coach Shareba Smith said. "It was a great opener for us. We only have three seniors so this is a young group. Work ethic is good. I was impressed with the way they performed. We have improvement to make, but we will get better. We also pick up some girls from the soccer team when they finish their season."

In field events, Breaunna Hafford won first place in the triple jump; Clementine Johnson was second in the discus and Shanae' Randall, second in high jump, and Tameeka Galloway, second in the triple.

Hafford came in third in the high jump. Jasper also took two fourth place finishes: Angelica Adams in triple jump and Shanae' Randall in long jump. Denessia Spikes was sixth in long jump.

Galloway also placed third in the 100-meter hurdles; Spikes was sixth.

Makisha McFarland finished second in the 100-meter dash, followed by Kiara Fowler, fifth.

Angelica Adams was third in the 400 meter run and Hafford was third in the 200 meters.All three relay teams brought home first place medals.

The team of Randall, Jessica Phillips, McFarland, and Champale Brumley competed in the 4x100.

The 4x200 team consisted of Randall, Hafford, Julia Morris, and Champale Brumley.

The 4x400 team was also composed of Morris, Brumley, Hafford, and Randall.

The team will compete at Anahuac March 9.
