Talent search

The 2007 Relay for Life committee is looking for talent for the all-night extravaganza that raises money for the American Cancer Society. It will be held the evening of Friday, April 27, on the courthouse square in Jasper. The Relay Idol contest begins at 11:30 p.m., followed by a Karaoke contest. Booklovers Club

Booklovers Club will resume meetings March 14 on the second Wednesdays at 2 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church's Coleman Hall, 740 Verna.

Gem & Mineral

The Pineywoods Gem and Mineral Society will meet at the Lutheran Church on U.S. Highway 190 in Jasper March 15 at 6:30 p.m. Janice Herron will give a "show and tell" presentation on methods for painting on rocks. Some of her works are on display at the Jasper Public Libray.

Social Security

The social security representative will be in Jasper at the senior center on Fletcher Street Thusday, March 15, from 9 a.m. until noon, and in Newton at the old hospital building from 1-3 p.m. Most social security business can be handled by telephone at 1- 800-772-1213, but this opportunity is provided for those who require or prefer direct contact.

Library book sale

The Jasper Friends of the Public Library will have a membership drive Friday, March 16 at the Jasper Fire Hall from 5-7 p.m. Membership categories are student $5, friend $10, best friend $25 and patron $100. Members have the opportunity to preview and purchase the semi-annual book sale.

4-H BBQ fundraiser

Barbecue or link sandwich, drink, chips and dessert will be sold Friday, March 16, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. in the Brookshire Brothers parking lot on the U.S. Highway 190 side to raise money for 4-H. For more information, call Nicole Hamilton, 384-7866.

Fish Fry

The East End Volunteer Fire Department will hold a fish fry at the Holly Spring location Satuday, March 17, 10:30 a.m. until the fish is gone. For more information call 384-5266 or Karen Oxley at 383-1830.

Book donations

The Jasper Woman's Civic Club is seeking donations for the book sale to be held during Azalea Fest, March 17, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Jasper Fire Hall. Donations can be brought to the Jasper Public Library, 175 East Water Street during regular library hours.

Bluebonnet Garden Club

The Bluebonnet Garden Club will sell regular bluebonnet and the new Aggie Bluebonnet seedlings at Azalea Fest this Saturday. The club will also sell chances for a painting donated by local artist Pat Tatum.

Hemphill auction

The United Methodist Men of Hemphill will hold a fundraising auction March 17 in the Fellowship Hall that will include a fishing boat and motor, furniture, office equipment, bikes and collectibles. For more information call 787-2183.

Class of 1949 reunites

The Jasper High School Class of 1949 will hold its 58th annual reunion Saturday, March 17 at Catfish Cabin starting at 11 a.m.

Scholarship pageant

Deadline for the Miss Southeast Texas Beauties Scholarship Pageant for ages 0-26 is Monday, March 19. The pageant will be held March 24 at the Kirbyville High School at two different times: ages 0-14 will be at 1 p.m. and 15 and up will be at 6 p.m. For more information call Kim at 423-6417 or Sara at 994-2544.

Diabetes classes

Christus Jasper Memorial Hospital is offering a free series on diabetes management in the Robert Hall Building on Tuesdays from 6-8 p.m. Subjects are: March 20, medication management; March 27, exercise; April 3, complications.

$10,000 Visa card

Jasper High School's Project Graduation is selling a limited number (300) of tickets for a $10,000 Visa card to be drawn April 15. Call JHS at 384-3242.

Booster Club garage sale

Jasper FFA Booster Club will hold a garage sale at the high school bus stop March 24 beginning at 8 a.m.. The club is seeking donations such as clothes, tools, furniture, whatever you can spare. JHS talent show

Jasper High School will hold a talent show at 7 p.m. Friday, March 30, in the auditorium; proceeds will benefit the JHS Junior-Senior Prom. The contest is open to any JISD student, staff or faculty member. Entry fee is $15. time limit for each act is five minutes. For more information, call Martha Morian at 382-1318.

Women's conference

"Women's Spirituality and our Role Today" is the title of a non-denominational women's conference sponsored by the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. It will be held at St. Michael's Catholic church in Jasper March 31 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will feature prominent women in the community. Translators will provide Spanish versions. Jasper Air Show

The fourth annual Jasper Air Show will be Saturday and Sunday, March 31 and April at the Jasper County Bell Field Airport. Gates open at 8 a.m. both days to view the static displays of vintage military and civilian aircraft. The show in the sky begins at noon on Saturday and 1 p.m. on Sunday.
