Rowe creativity launches Odyssey

Fifth and sixth grade teams from Rowe received first place in the regional meet in Woodville and will advance to the state level competition in Houston March 30-31.

Five hundred schools will compete at the state level, and one team from every state will advance to the World Odyssey of the Mind competition at Michigan State University in May.

Odyssey of the Mind is a problem solving event. Students make costumes and props that tell the story of a traveler who goes around the world. They have eight minutes to portray three stops. One stop must be the polar region, another any location on earth, and the third is a creative undiscovered area that the team imagines.

Fifth grade team members are Hope Hancock, Amy Coleman, Allison Bolen, Aubrianne Clark, Brianna Presley, Kristan David and Jacy Cordova; coach is Sheila Guillory.

Their story involves a bear named Frosty who gets lost, travels to France in search of French fries, takes nap in an igloo, and finally arrives in Huggy Land.

Sixth grade team members are Tia Hunt, Lauren Long, Sierra Mitchell, Becca Collins, Niha Zafar, Kelly Calkins and Micheal Little; coaches are Beth Anne Primrose and Myranda Primrose.

Their story is about a basketball player who has lost her 'game' and goes to the north pole to learn balance from the seals, to China to learn coordination from a dragon, and to find intelligence in Brain Bonzania.
