At the Jasper Junior High School Career Day March 6 students heard from people like veterinary assistant Jesse Watson.

Career Day is an annual event where students meet with business owners and employees from Jasper and the surrounding area. Rita Cummings, career investigations teacher, coordinates the annual event.

The representatives from local businesses or facilities supply students with information about their chosen occupation.

Each student attends three sessions on careers that interest them. Students may then use the information they receive to better equip them for a career decision. Facilitators from more than 20 occupations were present. Students were able to choose from occupations such as an attorney, physician, realtor, computer technician, radio broadcaster, nurse, police officer, veterinary assistant, cosmetologist, and several others.

Watson discussed the education requirements, education costs, skills, and abilities needed to become a veterinarian assistant. He shared stories about interesting cases and kept students interested by showing an assortment of equipment used by veterinarians on a daily basis.

Watson brought along his dog, Pepper and answered questions the students had about their own pets.
