Jasper doubles tennis team reaches semi's The Jasper doubles team of Tomika Cooper and Britney Hadnot reached the semifinals of the Ozen Tennis Tournament before losing to the third-seeded team from Kelly High School. Cooper and Hadnot defeated Bryant and Tucker of High Island 6-2, 6-2. In the quarterfinals, they defeated Saucier and Thompson of West Orange- Stark 6-4, 6-4. In the semifinals, the team of Stoma and Thompson of Kelly defeated the Jasper duo 6- 1, 6-0. "This was a breakthrough tournament for these two seniors," coach Stacy Gillis said. "Their teamwork helped win those two matches." Two Jasper freshman players also claimed victories during the Ozen Tournament. Savion Wright defeated Ambros Akers of Central High School 5-7, 8-6, 10-8 before losing to Alex Larcade of Port Neches Groves 6-3, 6-2. Evelyn Houston defeated Jerrika Toussaint of Central High 6-2, 6-2 before being defeated by Tillery of Woodville 6-3, 6-3. "This was the first tournament for these two freshmen and I am very pleased by their performance," Gillis said. The mixed doubles team of Kelsey Wilson and Michael Fowler lost to Buna. In singles action, Zach Wise lost to Woodville opponent Belsey 6-4, 6-3; and Christian Navarrete lost 6-2, 6-4 to Bryant from Central High School. |
