No animal shelter in Jasper
By BARBARA SMITH Jasper

This is in response to the recent article concerning problems with animal dumping.

True, there is a law on the books prohibiting dumping of animals but it is very difficult to enforce unless someone can get license plate numbers or can recognize the individuals and turn them into city or county officials.

One of the answers to animal dumping is for people to take responsibility for spaying and neutering their pets. Jasper Lakes Area Humane Society does have a program for low-income to help them spay/neuter their pets at low cost or no cost.

Jasper County has no animal shelter in Jasper County. There is no place to bring them. The Humane Society has been working with the Commissioners' Court for years to get one built to no avail. If you support a shelter, you need to voice your complaints to your county commissioner.
