Barber, Meigs gain opponents in city election

Jasper Mayor David Barber will face the challenge of former mayor R.C. Horn in a May 12 election.

Horn filed to run for the position late Monday, March 12.

District 2 Councilperson Gayle Meigs also drew a challenger for her position as local businessman Randy Sayers filed for the seat.

District 1 Councilman Joe Clyde Adams is unopposed for his seat.

Extended voting hours will be held May 7-8 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at city hall.

For the two positions open on the Jasper Independent School District board of trustees, four candidates have filed for the election.

Incumbent Carolyn Armitage has signed up for the election along with Melissa Armstrong, David Keith Hildebrandt and Kevin Kipp.

The city and school district have agreed to hold their election together May 12.
