Walking the halls
By DR. DEAN MILLER Jasper High School Principal

Spring officially arrived on March 20, TAKS testing is April 17-20 and graduation is just two months away. Focus is the key word, and I am hoping every one involved with our students and the students themselves will heed this advice. All of us are working toward the same goal of our students graduating from high school.

This is a journey that began in kindergarten or earlier. At the beginning of this journey, we were not even thinking of graduation, but we made sure that our students had their lunch, pencils and paper just to make it through that first day. It seems like a short time has elapsed since that first day of school.

Well seniors, now is not the time to coast but to put out that last burst of energy to make it to the finish line in this first race.

First race? Aren't we through?

I'm afraid not.

Life's journey is just beginning, and how you have approached school and these last few weeks may be how you will approach life.

Have you given your best at all times at school?

I do not think any of us always give our best in every situation. Why not?

Usually we will work our hardest for those things that are important in our lives, but it seems that those other things that are not as important, we might do just enough to get by.

This is probably is not the best time to give this advice to seniors, but they need to know in this day and time that life's journey requires your best at all times.

Will the next two months tell the story of how you will approach life?

You may think I am addressing this only to seniors, but everyone, myself included, can benefit by doing their best at all times. It is never too late to start.
