Brown Derby Pie star of Civic Club lunch If you want a taste of the Kentucky Derby, you can spend $405 and up for a grandstand ticket at Churchill Downs, or $15 for a Kentucky Derby luncheon here in Jasper at 11:30 a.m. April 12 at the Swann Hotel. Woman's Civic Club president Darlene Nolen said the club will host a fund-raiser fashioned after traditional Derby luncheons. Tents will be set up on the grounds of the Swann Hotel, and the Belle Jim will cater an elegant menu selected from Derby favorites, including the famous Brown Derby Pie. While dress-up is not required, there will be a hat contest with prizes. KJAS will supply light jazz, and the event will also have a silent auction. Coca Cola is donating beverages, including bottled water and juice, as part of their celebration of Coke's 100 year history. The luncheon is open to both men and women and replaces the usual Woman's Civic Club meeting in April. Seating is limited and will be on a first come, first served basis. Tickets are available from Nolen at 384- 8759, leave a message, or from the Jasper/Lake Sam Rayburn Chamber of Commerce at 384- 2762. |
