KJB tallies up county's contribution to Great American Cleanup campaign

The Keep Jasper Beautiful (KJB) group is tallying up Jasper County's contribution to the 2007 Great American Cleanup campaign.

Organizer Patty Shaw reports that KJB collected 240 pounds of trash in February, and their yearly total is 3,020 pounds.

"The city (of Jasper) is moving closer to collecting cardboard from businesses. This will save much landfill space as the cardboard is bundled and recycled," Shaw said.

Rower Intermediate has been collecting aluminum cans, and there is a newspaper and aluminum can collection every second Thursday at the Woman's Civic Club on West Milam from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m.

Newspapers can also be placed in the recycle bin on High Truitt Road any weekday. Louisiana Pacific donates the bin, and the Jasper County Library receives the proceeds from recycling for their building fund.

Librarian Denise Milton estimated recently that adds approximately $1,000 per year to the fund.

To participate in the KJB efforts, contact Patty Shaw at 384-6760 or pgjs@cmaaccess. com.
