Idol search

The 2007 Relay for Life committee is now seeking talent for the all-night extravaganza that raises money for the American Cancer Society to be held April 27 on the courthouse square in Jasper. The Relay Idol contest begins at 11:30 p.m., followed by a Karaoke contest. For more information, call Pamela Johnson at First National Bank, 384-3486.

Show and tell

The Deep East Texas Archeological Society meeting will be Monday, April 2, at 7 p.m. in the Newton County History Center. This month's meeting will be "show and tell" with members bringing in articles from their personal collections for display and discussion.

JRTA meeting

The Jasper Retired Teachers Association will meet Monday, April 2 at 2:30 p.m. in the Christian Service Center of Church of Christ. Dr. Charles McBee will be the guest speaker.

KJB luncheon

Keep Jasper Beautiful will hold a luncheon meeting April 2 at 11:30 a.m. to plan local events for the Great American Trashoff. The luncheon will be held at the Woman's Civic Club on Milam.

Diabetes classes

Christus Jasper Memorial Hospital is offering a free class on diabetes management in the Robert Hall Building on Tuesday, April 3, from 6-8 p.m. Subject is complications of diabetes.

JHS Band benefit

Students and parents involved with the Jasper High School band will be the servers at Lone Star Buffett Thursday, March 29 5-8:30 p.m. A donation from the restaurant as well as tips and additional contributions will benefit the JHS Band Booster Scholarship fund and the Jasper Band Program.

Women's conference

"Women's Spirituality and our Role Today" is the title of a non-denominational women's conference sponsored by the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. It will be held at St. Michael's Catholic church in Jasper Saturday, March 31, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will feature prominent women in the community. Translators will provide Spanish interpretation. Bloom Fest

Horn Trail Ride

Community Health Fair

The New Lighthouse Ministries at 1013 Helen Street in Jasper will host a Community Health Fair sponsored by the Deep East Texas Foundation. The first annual fair will be held Saturday, April 7, 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. They will offer blood pressure and blood glucose screening, cholesterol screening, education, refreshments and door prizes.

Benefit garage sale

Trinity Episcopal Church, corner of Main and Collier, will hold a benefit garage sale Friday, April 13, and Saturday, April 14, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Magnolia Festival

The 22nd annual Magnolia Festival will be held Friday and Saturday, April 20-21, at Magnolia Park in Kirbyville. "Lazy Days of Spring" is the theme; winning design of the t-shirts depicting the theme is by Salina Aranda, a high school art student. Parade begins at 10 a.m. April 21. $10,000 Visa card

Jasper High School's Project Graduation is selling a limited number (300) of tickets for a $10,000 Visa card to be drawn April 15. Call JHS at 384-3242.

4-H horse project

Sabine County 4-H horse project playday series will start April 21 for six months through Sept. 15. The playdays will be held at the Sabine County Youth Foundation Expo Center in Hemphill.

Monthly recycling

Texas Beautiful announced that every third weekend recycle bins will be available at the southeast corner of the Community Church parking lot for things like plastic and steel. Area coordinator Patty Shaw says newspapers can be recycled any weekday by dropping them off at the city transfer station on Hi Truett Road. Proceeds from newspaper recycling benefit the Jasper Library.

Grief support

The Friends of Job is a new grief support organization to help those who have lost a child, grandchild or sibling. They will meet the first and third Tuesday each month from 6:30-8 p.m. at First Baptist Church on North Main in Jasper. For more information call Sam or Brenda Job, 698-2356.
